DISTURBING
Diana Chepkemoi, a Kenyan girl dropped out of the University due to financial difficulties. Her mother also fell ill, forcing her to find an agency that would facilitate her travel and find work in Saudi Arabia.
In Saudi Arabia, Chepkemoi reportedly secured the domestic work to save her family from financial constraints. She was first motivated by the desire to complete her studies, reportedly at Meru University and wanted to save some funds for her school fees.
She unfortunately fell into the trap of slavery in Saudi Arabia as she is being held against her will by her employer who has allegedly taken her passport and phone. She is unwell but still being forced to work.
The majority of Kenyans who were touched by her plight in Saudi Arabia are protesting on social media, demanding the government and the Embassy of Kenya in Riyadh to intervene and have Diana released from the employer's home and then repatriate her.
"She went healthy, now she is ENSLAVED. See her transformation. Our embassy has her location and employer's phone but they are sitting pretty waiting for her to die. Sad!" they protested.
The owner of Makungu International who facilitated Diana to travel to Riyadh, confirmed that she had tried to bring her back home but was facing stiff resistance from the employer.
