*** little to no budget strategy for start-up business in Digital Media ***
I entered an agreement with Sugo Music Group two years ago. Sugo Music Group functions as a royalty collector and product placer in the market for artists. They cover physical media (CDs, DVDs, physical media) and digital formats (streams and downloads).
To work with them (SMG), an artist must send original music in a .wav file format. In turn, Sugo Music Group places the artist in their best suited niche/market according to sound quality, followers/fans, web presence, and projected sales.
When I submitted my album "End of the Brick Paved Road", I had a small presence on FaceBook, Twitter, and YouTube. Each song on my album has it's own video. My fans and peers knew about my releases because I would share them sporatically as I developed each video. There were a few other sites that were out at the time that no longer exist. On those sites, I was able to get views that were higher than 1,000 per video.
To find satisfactory pay for streaming digital media, each form of media must generate over 1,000 views. That is equivalent to the bmunt 1,000 points = $1 USD. When I receive a royalty notice, Sugo Music Group sends me an email that includes this notice:
"The Royalty Summary Statement (.pdf) will show, in precise detail, the revenue generated from all distribution categories: downloads, streams, video, CD sales, synchronization, licensing, and all other distributions during the Q1 2019 Period. Please note that we will be sending statements and royalty payments to you four times per year."
The PDF is a type-written Document detailing payouts for any activity that an artist's product may have rendered. In my case, it will show the activity of each time one of my songs play within the realm of Sugo Music Group's Digital Market Analysis. This document outlines product (songs), count (plays), and market (payout) including the total balance of each quarter. This document comes attached in the email along with an Excel spreadsheet with the metadata behind each of the song plays.
The Excel spreadsheet is where I find the information about who is responsible for covering the royalty payouts per play. In this recent quarter, I have seven different companies from five different markets around the globe who have reported streaming activity.
YouTube USA
UMA Russia
Spotify Mexico
***Yandex Russia***
Deezer France
Taihe China
Amazon USA
These are the companies that can be found on the World Commerce Exchange Market. Sugo Music Group became a company in the 1980s and was started by musicians/artists. In our agreement, Sugo Music Group stated that they would find a niche/market for me. Two years ago, my first quarterly report showed plays of my music through Amazon Japan and all sorts of other places. There are some companies from Africa that show up on occasion.
The Orchard Enterprises is a distribution company. Some beatmakers/producers will tell you to find distribution companies like distroKid. If you work with distroKid, you gain access to iTunes and other markets. There are also distribution companies that have no front-end costs to have your music placed in the market. Sugo Music Group does not charge you to begin marketing your music [some services are at a cost--yet, most of them can be done on one's own time for free]. DistroKid charges a monthly or annual price for their services. The Orchard Enterprises is exclusive.
* You cannot pay for distribution services from The Orchard Enterprises
* an independent artist who submits projects directly to The Orchard Enterprises must have very impressive material to have their work expedited through The Orchard Enterprises Marketing process
* The Orchard Enterprises is in partnership with Sugo Music Group
*** Yandex, LLC ***
Yandex, LLC is a company available on the World Commerce Exchange through Russia. Yandex is known for backing distribution companies including payout for artist's streams. Yandex is also the company the supplies part of the principal capital pay-outs behind exchanges on Blaqsbi. Yandex has an ad that is prominent on the Blaqsbi website.
I have two Russian web social media profiles. I can be found on VKontakte and Okru. Both sites have audio playback files where my music is listed. I became familiar with Yandex on one of my first royalty reports. #tamazih #iamblackmedia #highestheightstv #mafiasoypublications #blackentrepreneurs
