Background check no be insult, na insurance and assurance….
Sometimes, life no dey shout before e give warning, e go just whisper softly… but pride, infatuation and stubborn love go block ear.
Like we dey talk for Igbo land: “Onye ajuju adighi efu uzo”(Person wey ask questions no dey miss road).
Adaeze missed it… badly.
Love fit sweet but if you no check well, na bitterleaf you go chop.
This story wey scatter our street, no be film trick, no be Nollywood plot - na real life, real tears, real lessons.
For our street, Adaeze dey known as that fine, stubborn, only-daughter wey her papa dey guard like national treasure.
She get dreams, she get ambition, but she also get one problem - love dey rush her blood too fast.
One day, person recommend one man give her.
Dem say:
The guy na BANKER!. Well paid. Responsible. Gentleman. You know all that kind talk wey dey sweet for belle.
Adaeze hear “banker,” her mind fly.
Infatuation catch fire.
Her friends try talk:
“Babe calm down… do small background check.”
Adaeze say, “Love no dey need investigation naw. If person love you and love you the person nothing go dey bring delay for the matter again.”
Her family even carry their own leg waka, go do findings.
What they saw no follow, what they heard no match wetin she dey brag about.
They call Adaeze, show her proof, but love don cover her eyes like black nylon.
She cry, threaten, shout:
“If una no allow me marry this man, I go elope with am. Una no go ever see me again”
Being their only daughter, their hearts soften.
They allow marriage against their spirit, against their findings and against their peace.
Reality no dey use makeup to hide anything.
One early morning, truth knock her door without greeting.
The man wey she think say na banker,
wey she boast about say na “financial analyst,”
wey she dey tell people say “he works in the bank head office,”
na BANK DRIVER.
A bank driver wey package himself like manager.
Two years after marriage, Adaeze discover the lie,
not small lie o… deep lie wey break trust, scatter hope and wound her confidence.
Her voice break when she tell her family, tears flow like say somebody open tap.
She packed her bags and went back home.
Broken, embarrassed, confused, and angry at everybody except herself.
When she returned home, she begin to dey antagonize everyone and dey blame everybody.
Friends, parents, siblings, neighbours and even the person wey recommend the man.
Truth be say:
She no blame the only person wey she suppose blame - herself.
Her parents warned her. She no gree but na threat she dey threaten dem.
Her friends advised her. She think say na jealousy her friends dem do for her because she wan marry a banker.
Even her church aunties and neighbors tried to talk sense give her but she no gree.

This life dey funny ooo.
The same thing wey person dey defend with blood today, na the same thing wey go embarrass am tomorrow.
As a family, pain hit everybody.
No papa or mama dey happy to watch their daughter or any of their pikin suffer heartbreak wey dem warned them against.
If na me?
Hear wetin my heart go do:
Comfort before correction
You no dey flog person wey pain don flog already.
Create space for healing.
When heart break reach bone, healing no dey rush.
After she heal small - gently remind her of where she get it wrong
Not to mock her but to help her see reason.
Pain without a lesson is wasted.
Encourage her to rebuild confidence because lies dey break spirit.
We go help her stand again.
Tell her the truth wey love no let her hear:
For anything marriage no dey rush enter am. Background check no be insult. Trust must be earned not assumed.
Was she right?
No.
Stubbornness no be strength.
Love without wisdom na disaster waiting at the junction.
Was she a victim?
Yes.
Lies wounds deeply.
Deception scars are indelible.
The biggest mistake na say she no listen.
Like Bible talk:
“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” — Proverbs 22:3
Adaeze, cry if you must but no drown for the tears.
Heartbreak no dey kill person, stubbornness na im dey kill spirit.
Forgive yourself first, shame dey heavy but let it go.
Forgive the man not for him but so your heart can breathe again.
Learn the lesson - investigation no dey spoil love na for proper direction.
Rebuild slowly - broken no mean say you useless.
Find purpose again - heartbreak dey push many people into greatness.
