Ford Recalls Over 119,000 Vehicles Due to Engine Block Heater Fire Risk

Ford recalls some 119,000 vehicles due to engine block heater fire risk, NHTSA saysIn a move aimed at ensuring public safety, Ford Motor Company has announced a massive recall of over 119,000 vehicles due to a potential fire risk associated with their engine block heaters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed the recall, which affects various models and years of production.

Affected Vehicles and Models
The recall involves several Ford models, including the 2016-2018 Focus, 2019 Explorer, and 2024 Explorer. Additionally, certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine are also affected. The NHTSA has emphasized that the recall is not limited to specific trim levels or options.

Cause of the Recall
According to the NHTSA, the engine block heaters in these vehicles may crack and develop coolant leaks, leading to a short circuit when the block heater is plugged in. This can potentially cause a fire, posing a significant risk to drivers and passengers.

What Owners Should Do
Ford owners are advised not to plug in their engine block heaters until the recall has been addressed. The NHTSA has assured that dealers will replace the faulty block heaters for free. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed on February 13, with additional letters sent once the final repair is available, anticipated to be in April.

The recall serves as a reminder of the importance of vehicle safety and the efforts of manufacturers like Ford to prioritize public well-being. As the NHTSA continues to monitor and address potential safety risks, owners are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their vehicles are safe for use.
