Gaza's Rafah Border Crossing Reopens, But Only on a Limited Basis

GazaIn a significant development in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Gaza's key Rafah border crossing with Egypt has reopened, but only for limited traffic. This move is seen as a crucial step towards implementing the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

Limited Traffic Allowed Through the Crossing
According to Egyptian and Israeli security officials, 50 Palestinians will be allowed to cross in each direction on the first day of operation. This number is expected to increase gradually as the situation stabilizes. The crossing will initially remain largely symbolic, with few people allowed to travel in either direction, and no goods permitted to enter Gaza.

Medical Care for Devastated Gaza
About 20,000 Palestinian children and adults requiring medical care hope to leave devastated Gaza via the crossing. Thousands of other Palestinians outside the territory are eager to enter and return home. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also announced that Israel will allow 50 patients a day to leave, each accompanied by two relatives.

Returnees and Relatives
Some 50 people who left Gaza during the war will be allowed to return each day. Each patient will be permitted to travel with two relatives, providing much-needed support for those in need of medical attention.

The reopening of the Rafah border crossing is a significant step towards implementing the ceasefire deal and alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. While the initial numbers are limited, this development offers hope for a more stable future in the region.
