Leadership is bigger than the leader.
Stepping away from a project you helped build is never easy. Stepping away as a Co-founder on a bitter note is even harder. But this transition has taught me more about the true meaning of leadership than any success ever could.
To be a leader—especially a Black man leading by example—means looking beyond personal feelings. It means remaining actively supportive of the tools, platforms, and missions our people need to thrive, even when the personal cost is high.
This is the core principle of Ubuntu: "I am because we are."
We must prioritize the collective "We" over:
Anger and Spite
Fear and Despair
The sting of betrayal
If we allow personal grievances to dismantle the progress of our community, we are letting the mission die for the sake of our ego. I choose to remain a supporter of the goals we set out to achieve. I choose to lead by example, showing that our mission is bigger than any one individual.
