BLD PWR's Juneteenth Celebration: A Testament to Black Joy and Power

Black Joy And Black Power Are The Same Thing – BLD PWR Proved ItIn a weekend that will be etched in the memories of those who attended, BLD PWR brought together a community of like-minded individuals to celebrate Juneteenth. This three-day celebration was more than just a commemoration of freedom - it was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the joy of being Black.

A Celebration of Community
The weekend kicked off with an interactive whodunit game, where attendees were encouraged to work together to solve the mystery. This activity set the tone for the rest of the weekend, which was filled with laughter, music, and a sense of camaraderie. The event also featured a 'Talk Yo Sh*t' segment, where a lawyer broke down the importance of voting rights, emphasizing the power of self-expression and community involvement.

A Celebration of Black Joy
The celebration was not just about politics or activism - it was also a celebration of Black joy. The event featured music, dance, and delicious food, including BBQ from Blue Check BBQ. Attendees were encouraged to let loose and have fun, with many taking to the stage to deliver original poems and share their talents.

A Celebration of Resistance
But beneath the surface of this celebration lay a deeper message - one of resistance and empowerment. The event featured speakers who emphasized the importance of choosing community over status, and of finding joy in the midst of struggle. This was not just a celebration of freedom - it was also a reminder that true freedom is not just something that happened in 1865, but something that we must choose to embody every day.

BLD PWR's Juneteenth celebration was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the joy of being Black. It was a testament to the power of resistance and empowerment, and a celebration of the freedom that we must continue to fight for. As one attendee noted, 'Freedom isn't just something that happened in Galveston in 1865 - it's something Black people choose to embody, protect, and celebrate every single day.'
