ICE Agents Operating as Rogue Tribunal, Disregarding Due Process

Why Do ICE Agents Act As Law Enforcement, Judge, And Jury?In a disturbing trend that has become all too familiar in Trump's America, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are increasingly acting like law enforcement, judges, and juries rolled into one. They're detaining individuals without warning or warrants, often taking their phones and leaving families in the dark about their loved ones' whereabouts.

Detention Without Due Process
ICE agents are effectively passing judgment on individuals before a judge even has a chance to weigh in. Detention itself becomes the punishment, with some people disappearing in facilities with limited access to representation. Transfers can occur in the middle of the night, moving individuals hundreds or thousands of miles away from their families and attorneys.

Lack of Transparency and Accountability
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin recently highlighted the issue, stating that she couldn't even contact an ICE detention center to collect information or demand a release. This lack of transparency is staggering, especially when considering that elected officials like Menin are unable to access basic information about individuals in their care.

The Trump Administration's Role
A report found that just last month, there were more people without records in ICE custody than those who actually committed a crime at some point in their lives. This suggests that the Trump administration is prioritizing deportation over due process and accountability. The Constitution is being treated like 'toilet paper for cleaning the soles of their shoes,' as one critic put it.

The situation on the ground is dire, with ICE agents operating outside the bounds of due process and transparency. As we continue to navigate this complex issue, it's essential to remember that individuals are being treated like pawns in a game of bureaucratic chess. We must demand accountability from our leaders and ensure that those affected by these policies have access to justice and representation.
