Frigidaire Minifridge Recall Expands to Nearly 1 Million Units

Recall of Frigidaire minifridges sold at major retailers grows to nearly 1 millionA massive recall of Frigidaire-branded minifridges has expanded to nearly 1 million units, sparking concerns about a potential fire hazard risk. Curtis International, the Canadian company behind the recall, has issued an updated notice after initially recalling over 630,000 units in July last year.

Recall Details
The expanded recall affects 330,000 minifridges, bringing the total number of affected units to nearly 1 million. The recalled model is Curtis International's 6-can minifridge, which was sold exclusively at Target stores and on Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023. The affected minifridges are red in color and feature the word 'Frigidaire' printed on the front.

Potential Fire Hazard Risk
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), internal electrical components in the appliance can short-circuit, causing the surrounding plastic to ignite and posing fire and burn hazards. Curtis International has received at least six reports of this specific model catching fire.

Previous Recall Notice
The initial recall notice involved different Frigidaire minifridge models sold at Walmart and Amazon.com, with 26 reported incidents of smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or catching fire. The CPSC stated that property damages for those incidents totaled over $700,000.

Consumer Action Required
Consumers who purchased the affected minifridge model are advised to stop using it immediately and unplug it. They should also cut the power cord and write 'Recall' on the front of the fridge in permanent marker. When disposing of the minifridge, consumers must abide by local and state regulations.

Refund Information
Affected customers can visit www.recallrtr.com/minifridge for a refund. The recall number for the product is 26-199.

The expanded Frigidaire minifridge recall serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing consumer safety and taking swift action in response to potential hazards. As consumers, it's essential to stay informed about recalls and take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
