NBA Condemns Ibom Air’s Treatment Of Passenger, Demands Investigation by Maxymilliano(m): 3:31pm On Aug 12
The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria for their handling of the incident that involved Ms. Comfort Emmanson on an Ibom Air flight on August 10, 2025.
In a press release signed by its president, Mazi Afam Osigwe and general secretary, Dr Mobolaji Ojibara, the NBA described the airline’s actions, including a lifetime flight ban imposed on Ms. Emmanson, as “reckless,” “unlawful,” and a violation of her right to dignity.
According to the NBA, Ms. Emmanson was forcibly removed from the aircraft, publicly stripped of her clothing, and humiliated in an incident that was recorded and widely circulated online.
The association called the treatment “degrading” and a breach of her privacy and dignity, falling short of expected standards in the aviation industry.
The statement read, “The Nigerian Bar Association strongly condemns the treatment of Ms. Comfort Emmanson in the incident aboard an Ibom Air flight on 10 August 2025 and the subsequent lifetime flight ban imposed on her by Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria.
These actions are heavy-handed, unlawful, and a grave affront to the rule of law and human dignity.
“It is deeply disturbing that Ms. Emmanson was forcibly removed from the aircraft, stripped of her clothing in public, and subjected to humiliation that was filmed and circulated online. Such conduct is degrading, violates her right to dignity and privacy, and falls far short of the standards of civility and professionalism expected in the aviation sector. No person, regardless of the circumstances, should be treated in such a dehumanising manner.
“While Ibom Air has issued its account of events, other video footage has emerged showing an Ibom Air hostess preventing Ms. Emmanson from alighting from the aircraft, a conduct that could constitute false imprisonment and a possible provocation that escalated the situation.
This makes it all the more critical that the matter be subjected to an independent, impartial investigation by the appropriate authorities before any disciplinary action is taken against her.”
The association criticised the lifetime ban as a violation of fair hearing principles, arguing that Ms. Emmanson was not given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
“The decision to impose a lifetime ban without affording Ms. Emmanson a fair opportunity to be heard is equally troubling. Ibom Air has so far only presented its own version of events without giving her the chance to respond.
“This one-sided process, culminating in a ban supported by AON, breaches the fundamental principle of fair hearing and renders the decision legally and morally indefensible. The power to suspend or restrict a passenger’s right to fly rests with the appropriate statutory regulator, not private associations or airline operators acting unilaterally.
The photographing, dissemination, and online circulation of indecent images of Ms. Emmanson is also an egregious invasion of privacy and a criminal act.”
It added that, “Even if the incident was to be reported, the footage should have been blurred or edited in such a way that it did not expose her nudity to the public. Those responsible for capturing and distributing the unedited footage must be identified and prosecuted. Such acts erode public trust and undermine the rights of all citizens to be treated with dignity and respect.”
The NBA also stated that only statutory regulators, not private airlines or associations, have the authority to restrict a passenger’s right to fly.
“The NBA demands that Ibom Air immediately withdraw the lifetime ban, issue a public apology to Ms. Emmanson, and cooperate fully with an impartial investigation into this incident. We also call on the Minister for Aviation, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and relevant security,” the statement read.

The biggest mistake here is showing her bwest to the public. Before releasing the footage, they should have cropped off the part which showed her mammary glands.
It was this part that generated much attention and uncalled for.

That girl don hammer. Case closed. She will sue for assault and demand damages and claim she lost money and items worth millions of dollars.
Allowing the police to take her to kirikiri and releasing all the video clips for public consumption is so unnecessary on the part of Ibom air. That was their mistake. She will lie all sorts of lie to get her pound of flesh.
Runz girls know how to fight dirty.

I think this call is right.
- The lady was blocked from leaving. That is provocative and inciting. Who wouldn't ty to rough handle fellow civillian who decides to block me from leaving. This makes me not to care about that "she is beating me" that the hostess was saying.
- Secondly, why would you carry an individual like that. It is toutish, bullying and a gross abuse. That is collective bullying.
- In the course of carrying the victim, her chest was exposed. This worsens the case.
- And to cap it all, the disgraceful video was released to the world.
- Meanwhile, I don't know her offense yet.
Proper correction is needed in this situation.

That girl will cashout big time. Infact, she is already rich.
The main person at fault on this matter is the power-drunk air hostess who believed that it was her duty to enforce arrest of a passenger she did not like. Yes even if the girl misbehaved during the flight, the airport officials should be the ones to arrest her after deboarding. But the air hostess who feel because they have the power to deboard a passenger chose to take law into her hands.
I am not in support of the girl's aggression. But the bad service treatment from the Ibom air hostess was the trigger. Not everyone likes being denied of movement when they are not under arrest. That air hostess is going to cause Ibom Air to lose millions. Infact, it can get up to N100M. Organizations need to check their employees who deal directly with customers. Many of them abuse the little authority given to them.

The court of Ibom Air has convicted the girl as well as the Airline Operators of Nigeria.
Until now, the girl has not said her own side.
What do we have?
1. We saw a video of the girl trying to disembark from the flight after other passengers had gone. The air hostess blocked her.
2. We saw Ibom Air employees take laws into their hands and forcefully ejected her from the aircraft. In the process, her body was exposed.
3. We saw her fighting security men, presumably, after they humiliated her.
4. Ibom Air made a video of her exposed body and leaked it until it got to the internet.
What needs to be established.
1. Why was she detained by the air hostess when she voluntarily wanted to leave?
2. Is it true that the air hostess smashed her phone?
3. Is it also true that when she was asked to turn off her phone, she admitted it was on airplane mode?
4. Why was this particular passenger picked on?
5. Why was she badly humiliated?
6. Other passengers need to speak up and tell us what transpired.
What can be done
1. Ibom Air needs to drop that case and get that girl released. If they don't, they'd suffer reputational damage that may ruin their brand.
2. Ibom Air must compensate her for humiliating her like that. It would help their brand and show they value their customers.
3. I have seen two complaints about that particular air hostess on Ibom Air. The complaints are similar that she is generally rude and disrespectful. Some of these older air hostesses feel too big to be seen to stoop to young passengers, especially young girls. The airline needs to train their staff on handling potential unruly passengers. It seems to me the air hostess wanted to score a point.
4. NBA needs to help the girl to claim her rights. Lest, some air hostesses would start provoking passengers to humiliate them.
5. Some people have described the girl as disturbed. During the initial stage of the videos we saw, she was calm. Who started the altercation?

The air hostess should be included as well. Previous air passengers did not speak well of her. Her unruly behavior towards passengers needs to be addressed.

Nigerians like supporting lawbreakers.
Just to obey simple rules is hard for us. Switch off your phone for a flight that is only around 55 minutes is what that lady was claiming right for and now NBA want to leave the issue and pursue shadows. This was the same thing Natsha did, just obey simple rules of a situation you willingly submitted yourself to.
They are not talking about when she held the tie of one the men trying to restrain her in an attempt to strangle him or the flying kick she gave somebody, so those people do not matter also.

She was blocked from leaving because she assaulted someone, tempered with aircraft safety equipment and wanted to run away.

Aren't people funny? They pay tickets to travel with an airline and then say they don't need to switch off their phones. Get your own plane then. If you enter a car and the driver tells you to use seat belt and you don't feel like, leave the car and drive yours. Why do adults behave like babies? What point are you trying to prove?
They will all be claiming right but act very unruly and still expect respect. I am not defending the airline but before we fall into a danger of a single story, we need to investigate the case. Let her state her case, let the airline state its case, let a judge evaluate the facts and make judgments. I cannot just make judgment based on a few seconds of video documentation. Person wey hit person for inside plane no be assault?
On the KWAM 1 incident, had there not been videos, the narrative would have made him the victim. While they are still trying to justify his behavior, what if it was hot substance he had in the flask that spilled on their staff. I was watching the video again, see where wasiu brushed off the guy who put his hand on him and they will be preaching professionalism and customer service as if they themselves behave like responsible customers.
Badly behaved adults hiding under rights for their childish behavior. Sue ko, wasue ni! Na military government fit most of una, make dem wire you Koboko for back and you will behave yourselves. Democracy is doing the second part on most of you.
You have internet, use it, find your rights as a passenger and their duties as airlines. Talk to your lawyer, the airline sef get lawyer too. Go to court. You people don't know anything yet, the oyinbo you think are nice and professional will drag you like Tiger generator. Thank God we have social media and body cams to see footages now. FAFO

Unlike the largely individuals who are wrongly looking at the lady's outburst without minding what could have made her to act that way.
Exposing her nudity to the whole world is infringement and I expect Nigerians to defend her.

Is it possible for the lady to act like that if nothing has previously triggered that action. We were informed that she refused to switch-off her phone, which to me is not really a must if the phone was on flight mode.
The refusal may have led to some altercations between the hostess and the lady, before the hostess blocked her from coming down.
All the same, her gutter behavior, even when she was dragged down, was as a result of her being humiliated. You will act more than that if someone treated you that way.
Everybody is not a simp that will be defending women unjustly. The lady was maltreated and that's the fact. This is about being humane.

Can a good lawyer take up the case pro bono?
Yes the passenger has to be prosecuted for physical assault if there is proof that she slapped a hostess.
The airline too has to be sued for manhandling and stripping a customer... especially that wicked-looking elderly hostess.

Ibom airline should be thought a lesson on how to respect the dignity of their passengers.
You can't naked a lady like that, film her nude picture and share it online that is absolutely shameful.
For the same airline to announce a lifetime ban to a passenger they humiliated shows that the management of the airline are dumb and lacks professionalism

We can clearly see that the Airport Security failed in their duties both in the KWAM1 case and in this situation. KWAM1 should have been restrained and escorted out of the plane and out of the Tarmac and this passenger should have also been arrested immediately the plane landed and even before other passengers disembark. She should have been arrested first and escorted out of the plane by Airport security.
