The Coin that Changed my Day
It was a simple token – a single penny which seemed neither polished nor hushed in the matte finish. It was staring directly at me. I was cornered by a sidewalk which had two parallel gaps. The penny was perfectly centered between the two fissures.
It had the year ‘1996’ imprinted at the back. My treasured sibling was born in that year. She fondly mistook all the pennies from her birth year as tokens of good fortune. Only a little bit ridiculous, right? Nonetheless, she forged a river of memories in my head and her burnt toast breakfast was especially vivid.
A smile came uninvited.
This sudden reminder of a time period I looked back in life fuels me made me feel happy. Moments not only fuel the individual but the essence of life in a broader sense. Devoid of context, the day seemed like it was overly burdened.
Sometimes trivial an essence can serve as an anchor.
Make an effort to look around. You might not know when life gives you surprises.
