Getting to her apartment door, Chinenye saw a note lying on the entrance, she picked it up and it read "WE ARE COMING". She was shocked and afraid, but she went inside with caution, leaving the door open, just in case there was a break-in, so she can easily run out; as strange things have been happening within their street lately. But she later closed the door when she felt a bit safe inside.
She kept calling Hannah and Jane, but still no response. She became more worried when their numbers became switched off.
When it was 4pm, she decided to visit the bus company they booked their trip with, to find out what was going on. Just as she was about leaving, she heard a knock on the door.
She was already scared as she have been seeing shadows from her window at intervals, which she chose to ignore in fears. As the knock persisted, she picked up courage and opened the door, and behold Hannah and Jane stood in front of her. She felt so relieved and HUUGED them both. She led them inside and asked what happened to their phones that they were not picking up their calls. They claimed network was bad and they could not make nor receive calls till their phone batteries were drained.
After a while of gisting and giving them light refreshment, she heard another knock on the door, so she went to check who it was.
Opening the door, she saw two police men standing in front. Are you Ms Chinenye Ubah, one asked. Yes I am, she responded, in a surprised tone; Why are you looking for me she asked? Your name and address was on the manifest of the vehicle that had an accident while they were coming to Lagos the other replied. We tried calling your number, but it was not connecting, so we decided to come physically.
Kindly look through this photos to see if you can identify anyone there. So one of them showed her his phone. Immediately, she pointed at Hannah and Jane and said, those two, with an open expression.
We are sorry ma, they were among those that died on the spot. Hearing that, she laughed out loud, could this be a prank or what, she said. She called out the names of her two friends for them to come outside. But everywhere was silent and no response. She opened the door and no one was in the sitting room. She checked the bedroom and bathroom and none of them were there as well. She came back to the sitting room and found a note on the table saying "WE ARE HOME".
She quickly ran out in fear, almost colliding with one of the police officers. She kept saying " They were both inside with me, we were gisting, I even HUGGED them when they came".
She took the policemen inside to check her sitting room, but everywhere now seemed arranged and no sign of any other person, nor the note she had read earlier. She cried till her eyes could take no more tears.
No one but Chinenye knew what she experienced that day. She now lives a normal life; But she keeps wondering if her friends were really in her house that day as ghosts.
Till this day flash memory on how she hugged both of them keeps playing in her head.
