Nina Simone, born on June 18, 1923, was a renowned black musician, playwright, and activist whose work profoundly influenced African American culture. Her childhood home, now preserved by the Action Fund, is one of the most iconic symbols of Nina Simone’s legacy. The restoration effort involved meticulous planning, including site evaluation, reconstruction, and the restoration of Nina Simone’s memorabilia.
The Action Fund team, led by Dr. Angela Leshan, a Black actuary with a passion for history and education, worked tirelessly to restore this historic home.
