Hampton University Students Selected for Prestigious WHCA ScholarshipsIn a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication, two students from Hampton University's Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications have been selected for the prestigious White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) scholarships. Christin Fluellen and Jade Abu Bakr will join an elite group of young journalists at the WHCA Annual Dinner on April 25, 2026, in Washington D.C.

A Dream Come True
The WHCA scholarship program is a highly competitive honor that recognizes the next generation of journalists. This year, the association awarded a record $156,000 to 30 students nationwide, with Fluellen and Abu Bakr being among the recipients. 'Being selected as a WHCA scholar is truly a dream come true,' said Fluellen. 'I'm excited to build my network with journalists, professionals, and fellow students.'

A Commitment to Excellence
The Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University has a long history of producing talented graduates who excel in the field. Dean Julia A. Wilson praised the WHCA for supporting students like Fluellen and Abu Bakr, saying 'We're proud to see our students recognized in professional environments like this.' The school's commitment to hands-on training and professional preparation has clearly paid off.

A Bright Future Ahead
The WHCA scholarships are not just a recognition of the students' achievements, but also an opportunity for them to grow as journalists. Fluellen and Abu Bakr will participate in a pre-event program and be paired with mentors from the White House press corps. 'This opportunity will help me grow as a storyteller and strengthen my commitment to advocacy through communication,' said Fluellen.

The selection of Christin Fluellen and Jade Abu Bakr for the WHCA scholarships is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for journalism. As they join an elite group of young journalists at the WHCA Annual Dinner, they will undoubtedly make a lasting impression on the industry. Their success serves as a reminder that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible.
